Message from the CEO Dear Business Partners and Colleagues, This quarterly newsletter has been developed to provide you with the latest information and happenings within the DHCC Community and also serve as an important channel of communication between DHCC and our business partners. We are proud to announce that during the first quarter of 2013, DHCC has been active in key initiatives within the Dubai Medical Tourism and the Medical Education arena. Our participation in the Arab Health Exhibition & Congress, the 4th Moscow Medical and Health Tourism Congress and the UAE International Dental Conference & Arab Dental Exhibition – AEEDC Dubai have paved the way for future collaborations towards establishing Dubai as a Medical Tourism Hub in addition to positioning DHCC as an internationally recognized medical education hub. The events organized by our business partners have also contributed immensely towards raising health awareness and in some cases breaking world records, all of which are achievements for the Dubai Healthcare City community as a whole. | In January 2013, Dubai Healthcare City participated in Arab Health Exhibition & Congress - the Middle East’s largest healthcare event and the world's second largest gathering of medical and healthcare professionals. This year, Arab Health Exhibition showcased over 3,500 medical institutions representing over 60 countries, more than 83,000 attendees and 7,000 plus conference delegates. Read more... |

Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality, inaugurated the Car Free Day 2013 on Wednesday, February 13 riding the metro from Etisalat to Union station along with H.E Dr. Rashid Ahmad Bin Fahad, the Minister of Environment and Water, H.E Humaid Mohammed Obaid Al Qatami, the Minster of Education and other top officials of different government organizations and private entities. | Since the medical tourism initiative was announced in 2012 by Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, several measures have been taken to unify medical tourism procedures in collaboration with Dubai Health Authority (DHA), Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), General Directorate for Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) and the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM).  The Dubai school of dental medicine exhibited at the UAE International Dental Conference & Arab Dental Exhibition – AEEDC Dubai which was held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and President of the Dubai Health Authority. Mediclinic Middle East, the UAE’s largest private healthcare company, announced plans to expand its current presence at Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC). The 200,000 square feet expansion project, worth an estimated AED 200 million, will see the facility expand its existing operations to house an advanced oncology unit with radiotherapy facilities, including a PET CT scanner and linear accelerator.
Mr. Wendelin Lauxen, Managing Director of German Limbtech Orthopaedic Technology has achieved the World Record for “Fastest time to complete a marathon on each of the seven continents (male)” in 21 days and five hours. 
Under the Patronage of H.H Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Child Early Intervention Medical Center, in collaboration with Dubai Healthcare City and the UAE Ministry of Health launched the ‘4th Autism Around the World Conference and Exhibition 2013’ from February 6-9,2013 at Zayed University, Dubai UAE.

In addition to his extensive professional career, Dr Amer is a dedicated academic and is simultaneously completing a PhD in Public Health at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS), UAE University (UAEU). His research is mainly focused on evaluating the UAE health care system. Dr Amer is regularly invited to lecture at prestigious institutions, such as the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland in Dubai and the Institute of Public Health at UAE University, and to speak at various medical conferences. His work has also been published in international journals, and presented at several conferences. Dr Amer obtained his Medical degree at CMHS, UAEU in 2003 and earned his Master of Science (MSc) in Healthcare Management at Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland (RCSI) in 2007. Dr Amer was recognized with the Best Employee Award by the DHA and received the prestigious Sheikh Rashid Award for Excellence for Distinguished Students, for being the gold medalist at the CMHS, UAEU. |

Dr Amer Ahmad Sharif is the Managing Director of Dubai Healthcare City's Education Division responsible for leading the development of the education projects in the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Academic Medical Center. The center was established to champion academia in healthcare to serve Dubai, the UAE and the region.
