Dubai Healthcare City Launches Arabic Version of Award-Winning Patient Website

12 December 2010

Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), a member of TECOM Investments, today announced the launch of the Arabic version of its award-winning patient website, making it easier for people to identify a doctor and healthcare services.

Dr. Ayesha Abdullah, Managing Director of Science Cluster, TECOM Investments, said: “The Arabic language is spoken by more than 200 million people. As a leading center for healthcare in the Middle East, it is vital that we provide accessible healthcare information for the wider Arabic-speaking patient community.

“The new DHCC website www.dhcc.ae/ar/ allows people to search for a doctor by a range of criteria including medical specialty, language, gender, health and insurance coverage. It also provides the qualifications of our doctors as well as details about the healthcare standards that are implemented by our regulator, the Center for Healthcare Planning and Quality, which is responsible for implementing international best practice when licensing over 2,000 healthcare professionals and 90 medical centers at DHCC.”

The launch of the website coincides with the launch of an Arabic-language campaign to increase public awareness of patient rights, which is currently running across popular online sites and the new DHCC Arabic site. The campaign aims to promote DHCC’s Patient Charter which serves to inform people of their rights when it comes to healthcare such as the right to equal treatment, the right to be provided information about their care in terminology they can understand, and the right to seek a second opinion.

Dr. Ayesha added: “The English-language website launched earlier this year received an award for the ‘Best Website of a Free Zone or Export Processing Zone’ at the World Free Zone Convention and was recognized for its visual impact depth, clarity of information, user-friendliness and site guidance. I am sure the Arabic-language site will prove equally popular and useful in helping the public make informed choices about their healthcare provider.”

The year 2010 has seen Dubai Healthcare City launch a number of new communication tools to help the public find healthcare information through the most relevant and popular channels including an iPhone application, Facebook and Twitter pages. There are further plans in 2011 to develop these channels and to utilize new media for both patient education and dialogue on health and healthcare services.
