Healthcare Informatics

Creating systems that ensure the integrity of healthcare delivery and patient confidentiality

CPQ places a strategic emphasis on the use of healthcare data. Information technology enables the integration, storage, reporting and analysis of healthcare data submitted to DHCC by the HCOs. Since 2005, healthcare data has been collected from more than 400,000 patient visits to assist CPQ with its quality, monitoring, planning and regulating activities.

Collection of Healthcare Data

DHCC regulations require HCOs to regularly submit certain de-identified data elements relating to every patient visit. DHCC data regulations rely upon widely used standards such as:

  • The World Health Organization's ICD-10 for the international classification of diseases
  • The American Medical Association's CPT-4 for current procedural terminology coding
  • ABC Coding Solutions' Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) codes
  • HL7, the international formatting standard for the electronic exchange of health data

Coded data is collected electronically by the Healthcare Informatics Department using the internationally developed, award-winning Healthcare Information Reporting and Analysis System (HIRAS).

Training & Education

The Health Informatics Department offers live and computer based training on the use of above clinical coding standards and CPQ methodologies to all health care operators within DHCC. Monthly training programs and annual data validity site visits are offered free of charge to all HCOs. In addition, HID can offer customized training and consulting services on a fee for service basis.
